A Killing Frost

I read A Killing Frost last week and loved it. It’s the 14th installment to the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire.

In a nutshell, this series follows October Daye, a changeling knight errant to the Fae Courts. She’s also a Private Eye. It’s loaded with fae lore, and, as you might have guessed, something I can’t seem to get enough of. There’s one person car chases, sea witches, cats, kitsune, blood, and long histories with longer memories. Did I mention blood?

I think what’s so great about this series is that October grows quite a lot, but her underlying nature remains the same. I find it really special when I can read 14 books in a series and not dislike the characters that I’m meant to like.

Also, I got the husbandface hooked on them on a car ride, and he started reading them to catch up to me so we could talk about them. We even make references to one another as jokes… In fact, I tweeted about one, and Seanan McGuire retweeted it. That totally made my day. And I had that feeling I should be prostrate on the ground chanting, “I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!”

Anyhow, if you’re looking for a fae-based urban fantasy located in San Francisco, I highly recommend you check out this series.
